Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has proposed building high-speed railway lines to satellite cities of Minsk.

The head of state voiced this proposal while listening to a report on the development of the national highway network and the creation of transport infrastructure to ensure hourly access to satellite cities.

The president's statement is quoted by his press service .

What Lukashenko said about high-speed lines to Minsk satellite cities

Noting that it is not difficult to get to Minsk from satellite cities, the head of state suggested thinking about how to make the route even faster.

We need to think about building faster sections that are independent from highways, the president said.

Lukashenko cited the example of the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, where they began building an overground metro many years ago. It was assumed that the railway lines would be located on reinforced concrete supports. The project turned out to be expensive and therefore was suspended.

In Belarus, according to the head of state, it is necessary to build not an overground, but a ground metro.

We can come to the surface at the end of the Minsk contours and reach the same Smolevichi, Logoisk, etc., Lukashenko suggested, noting that this would not require huge amounts of money.
