A 74-year-old resident of the Belarusian capital turned to law enforcement for help in finding her missing husband.
Law enforcement officers found the man and then opened a criminal case against the citizen who had discovered an unexpected way to get rich.
An elderly woman from Minsk received a pension for her deceased husband for several years, and when his bank card expired, she reported it missing, the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus reports.
It is unlikely that the woman imagined the turn this case would take when she filed a missing persons report with the police at the end of last year.
She told law enforcement that her husband had gone abroad and was not in touch.
Based on this fact, a decision was made to initiate a criminal case, and a set of necessary measures was organized.
Unexpectedly, the Oktyabrsky District Department of Internal Affairs officers discovered that several years ago the woman and her husband had traveled to one of the EU countries where her daughter lived.
During the visit, the man died, and the pensioner returned to Belarus and asked her husband to issue a power of attorney on behalf of the deceased to manage the acquired property.
The man looked like the deceased, and it was not difficult to draw up a power of attorney.
The lady then registered the apartment in her daughter’s name, sold the dacha and the car, and for three years used the deceased’s bank card, to which the pension was regularly credited all this time.
She decided to report her husband missing only after the card expired.
A criminal case was opened for fraud on a large scale. The amount of damage was more than 22 thousand rubles.
