On Wednesday, September 11, many residents of the Belarusian capital complained about the smell of burning and smog that appeared in the city.
The situation was commented on by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus.
It is believed that the burning smell and smog could be related to the country's current red alert level and fire-hazardous weather conditions.
The smell and smoke may be associated with fire-hazardous weather conditions in the country's forests and swamps, the ONT TV channel quotes the press secretary of the Minsk City Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations as saying.
She did not rule out the possibility of inversion after extinguished forest fires - warm air does not rise up, but, remaining below, is carried by the wind across the territory.
In turn, the press secretary of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Yevgeny Baranovsky, notes that at present, nothing is being put out in Minsk, as well as in its environs.
The stench and smoke could come from burning or already extinguished forests and swamps, he suggested.
Earlier, the Ministry of Forestry reported a major fire in the Krupki district of the Minsk region - the fire engulfed a swamp and a forest.
More than 150 forestry workers were involved in fighting the fire.
