A criminal case has been opened regarding the attempted murder of police officers in Mogilev.

This was reported by the press service of the Investigative Committee for the Mogilev Region.

What happened

According to the press service of the Investigative Committee, this morning at the intersection of Pushkinsky Prospekt and Ostrovsky Street in Mogilev, a local resident involved in extremist activity came into the field of view of GUBOPiK operatives.

The operatives introduced themselves and asked the man to show his documents. The Mogilev resident responded aggressively, took out a sharpened knife and began to strike.

During the arrest, he inflicted bodily harm on the police officers. The police officers were hospitalized.

Another knife and a pistol for firing small-caliber cartridges were confiscated from the attacker.

A criminal case has been opened on this fact under Part 1 of Article 14 and paragraphs 1 and 10 of Article 139 of the Criminal Code (attempted murder of two or more persons in connection with the performance of their official duties).

The Investigative Committee noted that illegal actions against law enforcement officers, citizens performing their public duty, and their relatives will be given a strict and principled legal assessment.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the head of the department Ivan Kubrakov personally visited the injured police officers in the hospital. One of them is in intensive care.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs also reported that during a search of the detainee’s place of residence, they found bladed weapons, ammunition, a manual on how to make explosives, extremist literature, and books on psychology.
