On the first day of this week, December 16, a very serious incident occurred in the city of Bobruisk.
There, a local pensioner lit a church candle, but caught fire herself. The 97-year-old woman was taken to hospital with burns.
As the press service of the Mogilev regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported, rescuers were informed about the incident at about half past two in the afternoon.
In particular, they reported that a resident of the regional center received burns in her apartment (Ulyanovskaya Street).
It turned out that the 97-year-old grandmother lit a candle in front of the icon. However, due to a careless movement, her clothes caught fire.
Before the rescuers arrived, the great-grandson put out the burning clothes on his grandmother with improvised means and called a neighbor, who called an ambulance, the department noted.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations workers took the victim to an ambulance, where she was handed over to medics.
The pensioner was taken to hospital. Doctors found burns on 40% of her body and reported that her condition was serious.
The regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations says that the probable cause of the fire is careless handling of fire.
