Diesel train with 15 passengers caught fire near Lida

On the last evening of autumn 2024, a serious emergency occurred in the Lida district of the Grodno region.

There, on the Gudy-Bastuny section, a diesel train with 15 passengers caught fire.

As reported by the press service of the Belarusian Railways on its official Telegram channel, the fire occurred on November 30 at 20:42.

The engine room of diesel train No. 6066 Lida-Benyakone, which departed from Lida at 20:22, caught fire.

The Belarusian Railways noted that there were 15 passengers on the train at the time of the incident. They were evacuated, no one was injured.

The employees of the Belarusian Railways took measures to deliver citizens to their destination, the report says.

Rescuers were working at the scene of the emergency. An investigation is underway into the fire.

Belarusian Railways apologized to passengers for the inconvenience caused.

In turn, the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry’s Telegram channel reported that rescuers received a message about a train burning near the village of Zhirmuny at 21:02.

Four fire crews were immediately dispatched to the scene. There it was discovered that the fire had started in the engine room of the lead car.

All 15 passengers, according to the department, left the train on their own.

The fire was extinguished at 10:19 p.m. Experts are currently determining the cause of the incident.
