A resident of the Zhabinka district wanted to sell his car, but was left without a car and without money.
However, the fraudster who deceived the man was unable to escape responsibility.
This was reported by the press service of the Investigative Committee for the Brest Region.
What happened
In November 2022, potential buyers came to see a 55-year-old resident of the Zhabinka district who had posted an advert for the sale of a Peugeot passenger car.
Having discussed the details of the deal, the men came to an agreement. The seller handed over the documents and keys to a 21-year-old resident of the Kamenets district.
He left a deposit of 100 rubles and asked his friend, a 33-year-old resident of the Grodno region, to write a receipt pledging to pay 2,500 rubles within a month. The guy insisted that his friend include his personal details in the receipt.
That same day, the men went to the Kobrin district, where the new owner of the car handed it over for scrap metal for a symbolic sum.
He never paid the seller and stopped communicating. A year later, the deceived seller contacted the police.
During the investigation it was discovered that the man who wrote the receipt was detained in the Russian Federation. After being deported to Belarus he was interrogated.
The man said that he had nothing to do with the fraud and that he had written the receipt out of stupidity.
His friend's whereabouts were established. It turned out that he was serving a sentence for similar crimes.
The young man admitted his guilt and compensated for the damage. The Brest inter-district department of the Investigative Committee charged the guy under Part 2 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code (fraud committed repeatedly). The court sentenced him to one and a half years of imprisonment.
