In Zhabinka district, a man tried to sell a car, but became a victim of fraudsters.

The Brest inter-district department of the Investigative Committee had to look into the circumstances of the case. The perpetrator has been identified and is already serving his sentence.

The 55-year-old man tried to sell his car in November 2022, BELTA reports.

After negotiations, a 21-year-old buyer from Kamenets district received the keys with documents, and the owner received a 100-ruble deposit.

The man was promised that the remaining 2.5 thousand rubles would be returned within a month, and they even drew up a receipt, which was written not by the buyer himself, but by his friend, a 33-year-old resident of the Grodno region.

The friends later handed over the purchased car for scrap metal in the Kobrin region, and no one was going to pay the seller.

The accomplices soon stopped answering the phone calls of the deceived seller.

But only a year later the deceived man contacted the police.

By that time, the resident of the Grodno region who wrote the receipt had been detained in Russia for committing offenses.

After being deported to Belarus, he told law enforcement that he had stupidly written the receipt in his own name and had not taken the money from the sale.

It later emerged that the car swindler was serving a sentence for committing similar crimes.

He admitted his guilt and compensated for the damage. He was sentenced to one and a half years of imprisonment.
