The thirst for profit forced a 45-year-old machine operator to take a slippery path by draining fuel from a working tractor right into the field.
A tractor driver from the agro-town of Novosyolki stole more than 1,700 liters of diesel fuel, BELTA reports with reference to the Gomel Regional Executive Committee Department of Internal Affairs.
The schemer's trail was discovered after the arrest of a 30-year-old resident of the agro-town of Kopatkevichi.
The man was detained by officers of the Economic Crime Department of the Petrikovsky District Department of Internal Affairs and the Oktyabrsky District Department of Internal Affairs.
During an inspection of the interior of his Dodge, law enforcement officers discovered canisters containing 340 liters of dyed diesel fuel.
It later turned out that the fuel was sold to him by a 45-year-old resident of the agro-town of Novosyolki, who works as a tractor driver in one of the district agricultural enterprises.
He drained diesel fuel from a working tractor directly into the field.
The tractor driver managed to sell almost 1,400 more liters of diesel fuel to a 55-year-old client from the Oktyabrsky district.
The investigation established that the man had been draining this much fuel in a month.
Another 340 liters of diesel fuel were returned to the enterprise.
A criminal case has been opened on the fact of theft by embezzlement of entrusted property. An investigation is underway.
