In Kamchatka, as darkness falls, people continue to try to save stranded killer whales.
They are being doused with water by the Ministry of Emergency Situations and volunteers. A whole family of cetaceans is stuck in the estuary (Sobolevsky District).
The orcas were reportedly captured at low tide. They need a high tide to escape. But before that, they need water.
MIA "Russia Today" reports on the rescue of representatives of the dolphin family of toothed whales, citing an employee of the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Earlier, the head of the department, Sergei Lebedev, reported that the killer whales ran aground near the village of Ustyevoe in the Sobolevsky district.
Since the bottom of the estuary is muddy, equipment cannot reach the unusual prisoners.
According to the head of the district administration, Andrei Vorovsky, all four killer whales are alive and are being doused with water, waiting for the tide to come in, at which they will be able to escape from the trap on their own.
Dozens of volunteers and rescuers are working on the site, including trying to manually move the cetaceans to deeper areas.
The high tide is expected around ten to eleven in the evening (around 13:00 – 14:00 Belarusian time).
According to Lebedev, the water is already arriving.
The little orca is already swimming around its parents. The water is rising, the minister reported on social media.
