In Belarus, scammers have switched to a new scheme to deceive citizens. They have started posing as energy workers.
Such cases were recorded in the Volkovysk region, the press service of Grodnoenergo reported on its official telegram channel.
It is noted that criminals posing as employees of an energy supply organization are attempting to fraudulently obtain passport information from potential victims.
To date, several such cases are already known, when callers, under the pretext of replacing the meter, asked to dictate the series/passport number of residents of the area, the report says.
The press service added: it is not yet known how the criminals are using the stolen personal data of Belarusians.
What you need to know about real energy drinks
In connection with what is happening, citizens were reminded: energy system workers can only clarify the time and date of their visit by phone, which are convenient for the resident, regarding the issue of checking and replacing meters.
None of the employees ever ask for passport or other personal data of citizens, Grodnoenergo emphasized.
The same applies to the employees of the energy system's subscriber services: they do not carry out any additional work.
They also do not offer to enter into an agreement for the provision of services on site or additional paid services to the subscriber, the organization’s post states.
Document, special clothing
When visiting residents, energy system workers carry an ID card with them.
The document contains the following information: the employee’s last name, first name, patronymic, the structural division in which he works, position, photo.
The certificate is sealed and signed by the head of the organization.
Similar information (except for the number) is contained on the badge of the energy supply organization employee.
At the same time, the personnel of the repair teams are dressed in special clothing with the logo of their enterprise, for example, RUE Grodnoenergo.
The press service recommended that citizens who have doubts about a visitor call the organization and clarify whether he is its employee.
