A dangerous criminal who was wanted internationally and was a member of an organized crime group involved in racketeering in Russia was caught in Belarus.
The man was detained in Orsha by GUBOPiK officers with the forceful support of fighters from the Almaz special forces unit.
The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus reported the event on its official Telegram channel, noting that the detainee is a 31-year-old citizen of Russia.
It is known that in his homeland he “was an active participant in an organized crime group.”
This organized crime group “became famous” for its attacks on entrepreneurs in the Smolensk region, that is, it “specialized” in racketeering.
One of the episodes of her criminal activity is related to an attempt to take property from a businessman in 2018.
To this end, the criminals beat their victim, but failed to achieve what they wanted.
The enraged bandits "shot the victim with a non-lethal weapon." The man miraculously survived.
The following year, the defendant and his accomplices kidnapped the minor daughter of another businessman.
In this way, the criminals tried to force the latter to re-register his business to fictitious persons.
The Russian citizen detained in Orsha is currently in custody.
The issue of handing him over to Russian law enforcement agencies is being decided, the department concluded.
