Zelensky appoints new commander of Ukrainian Ground Forces

It recently became known that Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed a new commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to Russian media, this concerns Major General Mikhail Drapat, who was involved in the shelling of the territories of the DPR and LPR.

Mykhailo Drapatiy has been appointed the new commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, MIA Rossiya Segodnya quotes the corresponding statement.

The publication, citing Ukrainian sources, writes that this man previously commanded the operational-tactical groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "Luhansk" and "Kharkov".

According to the Russian Investigative Committee, Drapatiy headed the Joint Forces Operation of Ukraine in 2017 and 2019.

Under his command, the Ukrainian army carried out over 70 shellings of populated areas in the LPR and DPR.

As a result of those attacks, according to media reports, 154 people were killed and wounded.

Previously, from 2019 to February of this year, the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were commanded by Oleksandr Syrsky, who is now the Commander-in-Chief.

After Syrsky, Alexander Pavlyuk was appointed to the post of commander of the Ground Forces.

Zelensky also announced the appointment of Oleg Apostol as Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to him, both personnel decisions were agreed upon with Alexander Syrsky.
