The decision on the fate of the Russian military bases in Tartus and Khmeimim will be made by the new Syrian authorities.

The country's prime minister made the corresponding statement after power passed into the hands of militants and contact with Bashar al-Assad was lost.

Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali answered the question about the possibility of further presence of Russian military personnel in Syria.

This issue is not within my competence, it will be decided in the coming period by the new authorities, - MIA " Russia Today " quotes an excerpt from the prime minister's interview with Al Arabiya journalists.

Al-Jalali also noted that he is ready to cooperate with any leadership that the people of Syria choose.

It also became known that the majority of the country's government is located in Damascus.

Contact with President Bashar al-Assad could not be established.

According to the prime minister, his last conversation with Assad took place on the evening of December 7. Commenting on the militants' offensive, Assad said: "We'll see tomorrow."

The Syrian government and rebels have already discussed "the importance of preserving state institutions."

However, the militants do not seize government buildings.

Until the official transfer of power, the leadership of the country will be transferred to the head of government.
