US House of Representatives member and Republican representative Elise Stefanik is seeking the post of Permanent Representative to the UN in the Donald Trump administration.
Perhaps for this reason, the influential American abandoned her position on Ukraine, including on the issue of supporting Kyiv’s entry into NATO.
This was reported by the TASS agency with reference to the CNN television company.
Earlier, two years ago, Ms. Stefanik advocated for Ukraine's admission to NATO, as well as for providing Kyiv with large-scale military assistance.
But after the congresswoman was announced as a candidate for the post of Permanent Representative to the UN, her press secretary refused to answer a question from a CNN journalist about whether the politician still supports Ukraine's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
The spokeswoman said Stefanik "fully supports Trump's policy" of "peace through strength."
In the matter of the best ways to end the war in Ukraine, she will follow his instructions as commander-in-chief, the woman emphasized.
Stefanik recently said she would be honored to serve on Donald Trump's team.
Her nomination for the said position must be confirmed by the Senate, which, according to reports, will come under Republican control before the inauguration of the president-elect.
