US President-elect Donald Trump met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

During the conversation, the first threatened the second that, under certain conditions, the country of the maple leaf could become the 51st state of the USA.

According to the Republican, such a development is possible if Ottawa does not solve the problem of illegal migration and drug smuggling.

In addition, as TASS reports with reference to the Fox News channel, Trump informed his interlocutor that on the day of his inauguration, January 20, he could introduce import duties of 25% on all Canadian goods.

He promised to do this if Canada does not improve the situation with illegal immigrants on the American border.

The second condition: Ottawa must reduce the trade deficit, which Trump currently estimates to be around $100 billion.

Trudeau noted that such measures would most likely destroy his country's economy.

The interlocutor responded by saying that Canada could become the 51st state of the United States, and Trudeau its governor.

The prime minister, as the media writes, responded with “nervous laughter.”
