South Korea's Justice Ministry has banned the country's President Yoon Seok-yeol from leaving the country.

The restrictions on the leader of the nation came into effect at approximately half past three in the afternoon (approximately 09:30 Belarusian time) on December 9.

A representative of the Ministry of Justice responsible for migration issues told local journalists about this, TASS reports .

It is interesting that in South Korea, for the first time, the ban was applied to the head of state.

Earlier, the head of the country's Anti-Corruption Investigation Department requested that such a measure be imposed on Yun Seok-yul.

This is related to the investigation into the declaration of martial law and suspicions of rebellion.

Under South Korean law, the current president can be prosecuted for treason and rebellion.

Let us recall that on December 3, Yun Seok-yul declared martial law, citing the “fight against pro-North Korean elements” and the actions of the opposition, which, in his opinion, had harmed the country.

Thousands of residents of the republic took to the streets, demanding the lifting of martial law. According to the law, only parliament could overturn the president's decision. Which is what it did.

The opposition then initiated an impeachment motion against the head of state, but parliament did not have enough votes to approve the initiative.
