The Bundestag has passed a vote of no confidence in the government of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Thus, the green light was given for early elections to be held in February.

The portal "TUT NOVOSTI" reports this, noting that 394 of the 717 deputies who took part in the meeting voted against Scholz.

207 parliamentarians voted in support of it, while 116 chose to abstain.

According to German law, at least 367 votes are required to express or withdraw confidence.

In connection with the results of the vote, after which the German president is expected to dissolve parliament, a date for early elections must be set.

According to some media reports, the event may be scheduled for February 23 next year.

Let us recall that the vote of confidence was initiated by Scholz himself – he sent the corresponding request to the Bundestag on December 11.

Earlier, during an extraordinary session of parliament on the issue of confidence, the chancellor's main opponent, the leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Friedrich Merz, spoke harshly about Scholz.

He called the head of state "the face of the economic crisis" in Germany and a "disgrace" for the entire country.
