The speaker of the Georgian parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, initiated holding presidential elections in the country.
I suggested that the deputies organize this event on December 14 of this year.
He also stated that the inauguration of the new head of state could be scheduled for December 29.
I propose holding the next presidential elections in Georgia on December 14, 2024, the TASS agency quotes the politician as saying.
He added that, according to Georgian legislation, “the inauguration will take place on December 29” of the outgoing year.
The parliamentarian noted that the resolution regarding the determination of the date for holding the presidential elections will need to be voted on at a plenary session.
It is reported that for the first time in Georgia, a national leader will not be elected by a universal and popular vote, but by an electoral college of 300 people.
The board will include 150 parliamentarians, representatives of the Supreme Councils of Adjara and Abkhazia, and deputies of local authorities.
A group of electors consisting of at least 30 people can nominate their candidate for the highest official post in the country.
