Poland has begun building a line of fortifications on its eastern border as part of the Eastern Shield program.

This was announced on November 1 by the head of the Polish government, Donald Tusk, on the social network X.

What border fortifications will Poland build?

In June of this year, the Polish government adopted a resolution on the creation of a national deterrence and defense program, “Eastern Shield”.

10 billion zlotys (2.5 billion dollars) have been allocated for the implementation of the program.

According to a statement from Tusk's office, the program envisages the creation of a comprehensive defense infrastructure on the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance to counter threats from Russia and Belarus.

The line of fortifications will consist of ditches, minefields, anti-tank hedgehogs and an active surveillance system.

Construction of the Eastern Shield has begun. The first works are near the border with Russia, Tusk wrote in X.

The Polish Prime Minister attached a photo of excavators digging a trench to the publication.
