Polish authorities suspect beavers of being involved in the massive floods that have hit the south, southwest and west of the country.
For this reason, Prime Minister Donald Tusk has taken the initiative to declare war on animals and begin fighting them.
Several options for corresponding solutions within the legal framework are already ready for consideration.
Warsaw believes that these decisions can ensure control over beaver habitats.
But, most importantly, in the opinion of the authorities, it is possible to prevent the damage that these rodents cause to dams.
According to the TASS agency, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk made this statement at a meeting of the crisis headquarters.
You are not the first to call for rapid changes regarding the presence of beavers on dams, he said.
And he recalled that back in 2010, decisions were made in the country to combat toothy semi-aquatic mammals.
Environmentalists were irritated, but there are priorities. Sometimes you have to choose between love for animals and the safety of cities, villages, and the stability of dams, the politician noted.
He called for all necessary measures to be taken to combat beavers within the framework of the law.
And if necessary, new legal documents on this issue will be adopted, Tusk assured.
In turn, Polish experts say that the problem of damage to dams from beavers can be solved by building structures further away from rivers.
The second proposed option is to cover the dams with metal mesh.
