How Orban and Salvini Called to Stop the Conflict in Ukraine
The talks between the Hungarian Prime Minister and the Italian Deputy Prime Minister, who also holds the post of Minister of Transport, took place in Budapest, where Salvini arrived to take part in an informal meeting of ministers of the European Union.
As reported by Liga, during more than an hour of talks, Orban and Salvini discussed various issues: from the balance in the European Union to specific topics of bilateral cooperation, such as the development of the port of Trieste, which Budapest sees as a strategic outlet to the Mediterranean Sea.
Among other things, Salvini and Orban shared the need to urgently end the conflict in Ukraine, which Pope Francis also strongly expressed hope for, the party said in a statement.
The Hungarian prime minister also asked the Italian deputy prime minister about the trial in which Salvini is accused of depriving migrants of their liberty who were rescued at sea by a Spanish NGO ship while he was interior minister.
Orban previously said that the EU was harming itself by taking too pro-Ukrainian a position.
