What Orban called on Zelensky to do

The Hungarian Prime Minister noted that he will not succumb to provocations in connection with the Ukrainian President’s attempts to ridicule his peacekeeping initiative.

The proposal for a Christmas truce, the head of the Hungarian government continued, is still on the table.

Accept it or reject it. It is your responsibility, Orban said.

Viktor Orban

The Hungarian Prime Minister put forward the initiative for a Christmas truce on December 11 in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Orban also proposed organizing a large exchange of prisoners of war.

As Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov reported, Russia immediately responded to Orban's initiative.

According to a Kremlin spokesman, the FSB handed over a list of prisoners to the Hungarian embassy on the same day.

After talking with Putin, the Hungarian Prime Minister wanted to discuss his initiative with the Ukrainian President, but he refused to talk.

According to Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, Zelensky refused in a somewhat strained but polite manner.

Szijjarto called the Ukrainian leader's reaction a gesture that is absolutely unprecedented in diplomacy.
