Wind speeds sometimes exceeded 200 kilometers per hour.

The natural disaster claimed the lives of 14 people.
Local law enforcement officers are helping residents of Mayotte.
Around 1,600 police officers and gendarmes are taking part in the operation.
At the moment the strong wind has died down.
However, residents of the French overseas territory are still urged to be extremely careful.
According to 2024 data, Mayotte is home to approximately 320,000 people.
The archipelago is located in the Indian Ocean, or more precisely, in the Mozambique Channel.
