Current US President Joe Biden said he had pardoned his son Hunter in two court cases.
Previously, the head of state has repeatedly said that he does not intend to take such an action.
I have signed a pardon for my son Hunter, the TASS news agency quotes the American leader as saying in a statement released by the White House.
The President's Argument
Biden recalled that from his first day as president, he spoke of his intention not to interfere “in the decision-making of the US Department of Justice.”
He assures that he kept his word. He did not interfere even when he saw his Hunter "being selectively and unfairly persecuted."
The charges in his cases were brought forward only after several of my political opponents in Congress provoked them in order to attack me and to undermine my election, Biden said.
He believes that any sane citizen, having read the facts in Hunter's case, will come to the conclusion that he was "singled out" only because he is the president's son.
Trying to break
It was an attempt to break Hunter, who has remained sober for five and a half years despite endless attacks and selective persecution, Biden said.
He added that by wanting to break his son, "they tried to break me," and would probably try again. But "there is a limit to everything."
As previously reported, Hunter Biden is accused of committing illegal acts in two American states.
In Delaware, for example, he was found guilty of firearms-related offenses.
And in California, Hunter admitted to tax evasion.
