In Cuba, work and education have been suspended until the national electricity grid is restored.
Currently, there is no electricity throughout almost the entire island.
The reason for this, as reported by the TASS agency, was an accident that occurred on Wednesday night at the largest thermal power plant in the country, named after Antonio Giteras.
In light of the electricity situation, work and classes in educational institutions are cancelled, the Cuban Ministry of Labor and Public Security announced.
The agency noted that only the most important life support systems are currently operating.
This situation will not affect any employee in terms of wages, the ministry promised.
Local authorities have informed about emergency measures being taken to restore electricity supply.
We noticed that energy generation zones are already operating on the island.
For now, the priority is energy microsystems that provide water supply, since many houses were left not only without electricity, but also without water.
On Wednesday, Cuba was also hit by more than 60 tremors measuring 2.9. And in November, the island was rocked by two earthquakes measuring 6 and 6.5.
