On Sunday, October 27, the second round of elections to the country's highest legislative body took place in Lithuania.
It recently became clear which political force took first place.
The elections were won by the Social Democratic Party, which had been in opposition for the past four years.
TASS reports the victory of this party, citing data from the Lithuanian Central Electoral Commission.
Results of the parliamentary elections in Lithuania
Elections to the highest legislative body of the Baltic republic were held according to a mixed scheme.
Thus, 70 deputies were elected from party lists, and 71 parliamentarians were elected based on the results of elections in districts.
In the first round, the names of only 8 single-mandate winners became known. In the remaining districts, no one received more than 50 percent of the votes.
A second round was needed, which was held yesterday.
In the end, it turned out that the Social Democratic Party received a total of 52 out of 141 seats in the Lithuanian parliament.
Given that the political force will control less than 50 percent of the seats, it will have to form a coalition. The latter, along with the Social Democrats, will most likely include representatives of the parties "Democrats for Lithuania" and "Union of Farmers and Greens".
