In Belgium, a lawsuit has been filed against former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg for his participation in unleashing the conflict in Ukraine against Russia.
In addition, the official is accused of attempting to undermine the security of the North Atlantic Alliance.
He is also charged with crimes against peace and causing harm to the life and health of a group of people.
Frenchman vs Norwegian
The plaintiff is French citizen Patrick Pazen, who wrote a book about the West’s direct responsibility for the events in the Ukrainian conflict.
He announced the lawsuit himself at a specially convened press conference in Brussels, noting that he filed the document in the Belgian capital on September 27.
Jens Stoltenberg participated in an organized plan or conspiracy to carry out specific acts constituting crimes against peace, the TASS news agency quotes the lawsuit as saying.
It also points to facts that, in the Frenchman’s opinion, indicate Kyiv’s direct preparation for confrontation with Moscow.
Among these, Pazen also mentions statements by former leaders of Germany and France, Angela Merkel and François Hollande.
We are talking about the Minsk agreements, which, as the aforementioned persons once reported, were signed only to gain time for arming Ukraine.
Also attached to the lawsuit is a statement by one of the Ukrainian politicians about the 99.9% probability of a war with Russia in 2021-2022, in which Kyiv should win, after which it will join NATO.
At a press conference, the Frenchman said that Moscow was being actively provoked into military action.
Accusations against former NATO chief
The man accused Stoltenberg of sabotaging diplomatic efforts to prevent conflict.
He also included here the failure of NATO negotiations with Russia on Moscow’s proposals regarding European security in January 2022, which, in his opinion, could have made it possible to avoid conflict.
The Frenchman points out that at that time the Norwegian had already been leading the Alliance for 8 years, simultaneously serving as the head of the Russia-NATO Council and the NATO-Ukraine Commission.
He had a detailed understanding of the relationship with Russia, but he did not take any measures to prevent the conflict. Moreover, he repeatedly lied publicly, which is documented in our lawsuit, - Pazen said.
He explained: the potential defendant repeatedly denied in his speeches NATO’s promises not to expand to the East after the unification of Germany.
In the plaintiff’s opinion, this lie prevented the military-political bloc from refusing to accept Ukraine, which became the root cause of the conflict, threatening the security of all countries in the Alliance.
Life imprisonment
The former Secretary General, says the Frenchman, violated the basic document of the organization – the Washington Treaty.
According to this agreement, NATO's goal is to ensure the security of all its member states.
The plaintiff believes that the violation he named is sufficient grounds for depriving Stoltenberg of diplomatic immunity.
The Frenchman's lawyer added that, according to Belgian law, the former head of NATO could face life imprisonment for his actions.
