Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov, answering journalists’ questions, spoke about the main response to Western sanctions.
The Minister takes part in UN events taking place in New York.
We talked about the fact that the US and EU sanctions today affect about 40 countries with a population of about 2.5 billion people. Of course, a very serious pool of states has already been formed that advocate on all international platforms, on a bilateral track, the topic of counteracting this kind of phenomenon, BELTA quotes Maxim Ryzhenkov as saying.
As for the possibilities of legal protection of Belarus' interests in international courts, the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry spoke about various packages of decisions.
But the diplomat called this path long and distant.
The main response to all these sanctions is to increase our openness, as we did with the introduction of a visa-free regime for citizens of the European Union: come, see how we are developing, what is happening with us, and relax with us, the minister explained.
Another response to illegal sanctions is strengthening unity through various international organizations, including the SCO, BRICS, the EAEU, and the CIS.
Maxim Ryzhenkov concluded by noting that “without sanctions the West will not survive,” so the answer to them lies in “unity, the implementation of joint projects and the strengthening of institutional foundations.”
