The bureau of the lower house of the French parliament has approved an initiative by the left-wing party "France Unbowed" to table a resolution on the impeachment of the country's President Emmanuel Macron.
The head of the “Unbowed France” faction, Mathilde Pano, reported this on the X social network.

Pano called the decision of the National Assembly Bureau unprecedented for the country and said that the resolution will now be sent to the Legislative Affairs Committee.
The MP also announced a mass demonstration for Macron’s resignation on September 21.
The resolution, submitted to the National Assembly bureau on August 31, provides for the launch of impeachment proceedings against Macron in accordance with Article 68 of the Constitution, which allows for such a scenario in the event of the president’s failure to fulfill his duties, including refusal to approve laws passed by parliament.
For the resolution to be approved, it must be supported by two-thirds of the National Assembly deputies. The document is then sent to the Senate.
If the resolution is approved by both houses, deputies and senators meet in a joint session. Impeachment requires the votes of at least 617 of the 925 members of both houses.
The early parliamentary elections in France were won by the left-wing alliance New Popular Front, which includes Unbowed France.
The Alliance won 182 of the 577 seats in the National Assembly. Second place and 168 seats went to the presidential coalition Together for the Republic, third place and 143 seats went to the right-wing National Union party and its allies from the Republicans party. A majority in parliament requires 289 mandates.
On September 5, Macron appointed Michel Barnier of the Republican party as prime minister, ending almost two months of technical functioning of the government of Gabriel Attal, who was dismissed after the elections.
The appointment of a right-wing representative as prime minister provoked mass protests from the left, who demanded that their representative be appointed as head of government.
