The world media's attention remains riveted on the West's decision, which could result in Kyiv launching attacks deep into Russia using long-range weapons supplied by Ukraine's allies.
It was believed that the decision would be announced following a meeting between President Biden and British Prime Minister Starmer.
Following Russian President Vladimir Putin's statement that such a decision would mean the start of a war between the United States and Russia, the White House commented on the situation.
I did not say that we do not take seriously the threats of (Russian President Vladimir - ed.) Putin. We take them seriously, - MIA " Russia Today " quotes the statement of the coordinator for strategic communications of the White House National Security Council John Kirby.
Washington's reaction
This was followed by a clarification that Washington had not changed its position on the issue of restrictions on Kiev’s use of American weapons.
At the same time, Kirby noted that the United States is guided by its own calculations, based on which it makes decisions about what “to send to Ukraine and what not.”
Kirby also said that no announcements on this issue would be made following the meeting between US President Biden and British Prime Minister Starmer.
Putin's statement
Let us recall that this week Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that permission from the West for Kiev to use long-range weapons to strike targets in the Russian rear would mean the beginning of a war between NATO, the US and European countries against Russia.
As the Russian leader emphasized, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are not capable of carrying out such strikes on their own.
An attack is only possible using NATO satellites and the entry of flight missions by NATO military personnel.
Later, Dmitry Peskov called the head of state’s statement “extremely clear, unambiguous,” and also not allowing for “any double readings.”
