The head of Hungarian diplomacy stated that if Russian oil supplies are stopped, Hungary “simply will not survive.”
He noted that Hungary does not have the infrastructure to ensure supplies via alternative routes.
According to the minister, Kyiv's decision to stop the transit of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline is a serious challenge for the Hungarian economy.
The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry noted that since the beginning of the special operation, the economic policy of the European Union has become overly politicized.
For Hungary, energy supply issues, according to Szijjártó, have nothing to do with politics.
This is the country's duty. And this is a question of physical existence, he said in an interview with RBC .
In mid-July, Hungary and Slovakia announced the cessation of Russian oil supplies through Ukraine via the Druzhba pipeline due to the inclusion of Lukoil on the Ukrainian blacklist.
On July 22, Hungary and Slovakia appealed to the European Commission over Kyiv’s actions. Szijjarto subsequently stated that the cessation of transit had been coordinated from Brussels.
The head of the Ukrainian government, Denys Shmyhal, stated that Kyiv does not intend to resume transit and has full understanding from Brussels on this issue.
