Alexander Lukashenko explained why the traditions of celebrating October Revolution Day have been preserved in Belarus.
Not because he, the President, is an “ardent communist,” the head of state said during his speech at the opening ceremony of an international standard swimming pool in Minsk.
He recalled that at one time older people celebrated November 7 as one of the big holidays.
Later, all those who celebrated, “all left these celebrations, from this holiday.”
And only in Belarus have we preserved this great holiday. Belarus is the only country in the post-Soviet space that has preserved the red day of the calendar, - the head of state is quoted by his press service .
According to Lukashenko, the republic decided to keep November 7 as a holiday, since “this is our history.”
And what about the holiday? And about the holiday, you probably remember, I said: "Well, let's make ourselves presents for November 7th," he continued.
Therefore, the President explained, the holiday was preserved.
And throughout the country, not from today, but from the day before yesterday, we have already begun to give our Belarusian people significant gifts, he said.
The new swimming pool in Minsk is one of such gifts, the Belarusian leader emphasized.
