All over the world, including Belarus, Catholics today, September 8, celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The history of the holiday has its roots in the early centuries of our era - the first mentions of the celebrations date back to the 5th century.

Around the same time, the holiday was officially included in the church calendar.

It is worth noting that even the Bible (New Testament) does not contain much information related to the birth of the Mother of God.

And according to what we have, we know that the parents of the Virgin Mary were the pious Joachim (from the line of King David) and Anna (from the line of high priests).

They lived to a ripe old age, but they had no children. However, they did not lose hope - in prayer they asked the Lord to grant them a child.

Their prayers were heard - an angel brought the couple good news: he announced the imminent birth of their daughter Mary.

The Christian Church attaches special significance to the feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.

Attention is drawn to the fact that the Virgin Mary is assigned a special role in the implementation of the divine plan for the salvation of humanity.
