Why you shouldn't insulate fruit trees too early: a common mistake of summer residents

Before the onset of winter, fruit trees must be protected from the upcoming frosts and other adverse weather conditions.

If we are talking about seedlings, then they are insulated using covering material.

If we are talking about mature trees, then you can limit yourself to using mulch.

Some amateur gardeners make a grave mistake by thinking: “The sooner I insulate the plants, the better.”

Do not insulate fruit trees immediately after harvesting. Such an oversight will likely lead to several dangerous consequences at once.

Why is early insulation of plants dangerous?

If you cover fruit trees in early autumn, it is possible that condensation will appear. In combination with a sharp temperature drop, it will cause great harm to the flora.

In addition, early insulation of seedlings is fraught with the appearance of dangerous diseases.

It is also important to remember that a tree covered too early may rot. It is possible that this will lead to the death of the plant.

To avoid unwanted consequences, remember one simple rule: you can start insulating trees only after the air temperature drops to at least -5 degrees.

What Not to Use as Mulch

When insulating the tree trunk circle, you cannot use straw: during the transitional season, rodents can “start up” in it.

But using humus or wood shavings as mulching material is the right step.
