The flowering of the Decembrist depends on many factors, but still the most common reason why the plant refuses to bloom is diseases and pests.
They, as noted by the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, not only become an obstacle to the development of the zygocactus, but can also lead to its death.
To recognize the threat in time, it is enough to carefully monitor the condition of the plant.
Signs of fungal or parasitic infestation
You should be wary if the shoots have lost their rich color and shine and have become dull and flabby.
Dry, mealy or light moldy deposits also do not bode well.
The Decembrist's leaves should not normally turn red or yellow. Another sign of trouble is small spots or ulcers on the leaves.
What to do with a sick Decembrist
Of course, it is best not to let the flower get to a state where it requires treatment.
If it happens that due to frequent watering, lack of or insufficient thickness of the drainage layer, use of cold water for watering, the roots of the Decembrist have turned black and dried out, you will have to replant it. Find a new pot for it, completely replace the soil and increase the drainage layer, and also reduce watering.
The plant should be watered as the top layer of soil dries out using water at room temperature.
If the zygocactus is damaged by pests, treat it with a cotton swab soaked in alcohol, followed by treatment with special insecticides.
The cause of yellowing leaves and falling buds may be a lack of sunlight, a deficiency of nutrients, or sudden temperature fluctuations.
To help the flower, move it to a well-lit place, out of direct sunlight. Stabilize the temperature and feed the plant with fertilizers for succulents and cacti.
To get rid of root rot, you need to cut off the rotten areas and treat the cuts with an antiseptic. After that, you should replant - the new pot should be larger than the previous one and have a thick drainage layer.
