The opinions of summer residents regarding winter sowing of carrots are diametrically opposed.
If you have made a firm decision to sow, listen to the recommendations of the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh.
She told which varieties of carrots are best suited for this purpose.
According to the expert, priority should be given to old zoned varieties that are reliable and resistant to flowering.
No one argues with the fact that modern hybrids (if not all, then at least most) are demanding in terms of agricultural technology and growing conditions. This means that it is better to wait until spring to sow them.
But for winter sowing, it is better to choose carrot varieties such as “Vitaminnaya 6”, “Nantes 4”, “Losinoostrovskaya 13”, “Moskovskaya zimnyaya A-545”, “Nesravannaya”, etc.
As for the seeds themselves, they must be, first of all, dry.
When sowing in winter, do not carry out any treatments with carrot seeds such as soaking, germination, bubbling, etc. They can stimulate germination, so they should be avoided.
You should also not use pelleted seeds or seeds on tape. They are bought specifically to avoid thinning later, while when sowing before winter, on the contrary, it is worth doubling the number of seeds. This is the reason why regular seeds are the best choice.
