Compost is a faithful assistant for any summer resident in obtaining a bountiful harvest of vegetables, fruits and berries from their own plot.
But sometimes it happens that the compost heap begins to emit a terrible smell.
What to do if you find yourself in a similar situation? Use the proven advice from wise gardeners and use soda to eliminate the repulsive "aroma".
Simply add baking powder to the rest of the compost heap and the stench should disappear in no time.
Besides this, soda is capable of other feats.
Determination and change of soil acidity
Soda is an alkali. If you mix it with acidic, damp soil (pH up to 5), it will behave exactly as if it had been “quenched” with vinegar, that is, it will hiss and bubble.
To reduce the acidity of the soil, you can resort to the help of soda, but do not overdo it, since this product does not have the best effect on plants.
Processing of grapes
Many winegrowers use a soda solution during the ripening period of grapes to increase their sugar content and get rid of gray rot.
A product consisting of 10 liters of water and 75 g of soda is applied to the entire above-ground part by spraying.
Destruction of caterpillars
If you don’t know what to do when attacked by leaf-eating caterpillars, use the same solution as for grapes.
Detergent
Well, if you have a problem washing your hands after working in the garden, try rubbing your palms with soda: it effectively cleans your hands from dirt.
