Decembrist, also known as Schlumbergera, is one of the most popular indoor plants.
Its bright flowers, blooming in December, create a festive atmosphere in the house. However, as the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh rightly notes, achieving lush flowering is not such an easy task, and not all plant growers manage to cope with it.
If you want to enjoy the view of the most beautiful flowers of the Decembrist, listen to the following advice.
How to care for a Decembrist
In order for you to be able to consider yourself a professional in the field of plant growing, who has managed to get your Schlumbergera to bloom, you must follow a few rules.
Despite its unpretentiousness, this plant has special requirements for watering, lighting and feeding.
Watering mode
With the onset of late autumn, stop watering the flower frequently. Do not overdo it with watering until spring - moisten the soil in the pot no more than once a week.
At the same time, make sure that water does not stagnate in the tray. Due to excess liquid, the roots may begin to rot.
Lighting
Schlumbergera is a fan of diffused light. Remember that direct sunlight can cause leaf burns. For this reason, leave pots with Decembrist exclusively on windowsills on the eastern or northern side.
In winter, when there is not much natural light, connect phytolamps to work.
Top dressing
To strengthen the root system of the flower and stimulate its flowering, prepare an infusion of nettle leaves, which are sold in the pharmacy.
Pour a glass of boiling water over a tablespoon of raw material and wait 1-2 hours. A few drops of this infusion should be added to the water for watering the Decembrist.
