Experienced summer residents do not close the season until they have put their summer cottage in order.
The weather periodically scares us with snowfalls, so we need to hurry so that winter doesn’t catch us by surprise.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist agronomist and landscape designer, told what remains to be done in the garden and vegetable garden.
Leaves
Leaving them lying around until spring is not the healthiest idea. As a mulching material, they cope with the task and will even protect the soil and plant roots from the first frosts.
But the problem is that pests and pathogens of various diseases can overwinter under the leaves.
Therefore, it is better to collect the leaves and burn them before winter comes.
Branches
After pruning trees and shrubs, collect them and burn those that show signs of fungal damage.
It is not recommended to leave such vegetation even for firewood.
Along with them, remove all fallen fruits - pick them off the branches and collect them from the ground.
Garden
The long-standing habit of leaving plant remains in the garden will also not lead to anything good.
Cabbage rhizomes, root crop tops and other remains of cultivated plants will become food for slugs and rodents.
Also, don't forget to get rid of the weeds, simply because in the spring there won't be much time to clean them up.
These simple rules will help you avoid the spread of diseases and pests, prepare the area for spring work and start the new season in a good mood.
