Winter is not a time to relax for gardeners, summer residents, and owners of other land plots.

At least for those who grow plants and expect a good harvest next season.

However, at the same time, some actions are not recommended during the winter period.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, spoke about what exactly can be done and what it is advisable to refrain from.

Gardeners and vegetable growers often ask: is it possible to throw snow from the plot onto the plants being grown?

The expert answers: it is possible, especially if we are talking about heat-loving representatives of flora that need shelter during the winter period.

For such plants, snow will serve as an optimal shelter from frost. This applies primarily to roses.

But you shouldn’t throw snow on spherical and conical thujas and junipers – the branches may break.

As for covering plants for the winter, an option is mulch in the form of peat, humus, sawdust or dry leaves.

In this case, the mulch layer should be about 10 millimeters.

You can add pine or spruce branches on top, which will prevent the wind from scattering the mulch, and if snow falls, they will hold it over the plant.

Regarding when to remove covers from plants, experts say the following: this should be done in the spring, as soon as the snow melts.

And don’t delay this under any circumstances: in such a shelter, the plants may rot under the sun’s rays.
