Winter does not mean that work in gardens and summer cottages is finished.

To get a good harvest in the new season, you need to prepare now.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, spoke about the work that is recommended to be carried out in January.

Snow

If January was marked by heavy snowfall, it should be shaken off the branches of trees and bushes.

It is advisable to perform the procedure after each snowfall.

It is especially important to do this if snow fell during a thaw, since in this case it sticks to the plants, threatening to break the branches.

Feeders

Hang up bird feeders for birds, who have difficulty finding food under the snow in January.

It is worth remembering that birds protect your plants, destroying a considerable number of pests that are dangerous to flora.

Stratification

Experts also advise sending the seeds for stratification, a process in which they are exposed to both cold and humidity.

The fact is that the seeds of some flowers, for example, peonies, bells, hellebores, etc., as well as many fruit trees, germinate only under the influence of cold.

For this reason, it is recommended to store them in the refrigerator before sowing - for 1.5 - 3 months (depending on the specific type).

Celery

It is also recommended to sow celery root seeds in January.

Its ripening period is quite long – up to 180 days. Therefore, it is grown through seedlings.

Experts say that the optimal time for sowing such seeds is the end of January.
