Preparing the garden for spring flowering can begin long “before” – to be more specific, in the fall.
If you want to achieve constant flowering in your yard in the spring, to the envy of your neighbors, use the simple method that we will tell you about below.
This trick will ensure that you can enjoy beautiful blooms between March and May.
The hack's creator, Tom Strowler, calls it "onion lasagna" because it's based on the principle of layering onions and soil in a pot.
Advantages of the technique
The explanation is quite simple: the more spring bulbs you plant in the fall, the more flowers you will get in the spring.
This method has at least two advantages: firstly, it is available to every gardener, and secondly, it ensures constant flowering.
What you will need
To implement your plans, you will need to purchase seed material for bulbous flowers: crocuses, hyacinths, daffodils, alliums and tulips.
In addition, you need to purchase high-quality compost that does not contain peat.
How the technique works
Prepare a suitable pot, then place the onion bulbs at the bottom. The next layer is compost. After that, add daffodil bulbs and compost again. Finally, add hyacinths and fill to the top with compost – the onion lasagne is ready.
These three layers of bulbs will provide flowering from March to May.
Use this method to create a permanent flower cover throughout your garden. Of course, this will require you to work on quite a few pots, but that's all for the better.
