The most common decorative coniferous crops are thujas.
They are very convenient to create a hedge from, and the tree also looks spectacular against the general background, which is actively used by designers. But not all plants get along together.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, told which plants should not be planted next to thuja.
What do thujas need?
Thujas love the sun or light partial shade, but they do not want to grow in the shade at all.
In addition, they do not like to be transplanted, and are also demanding of soil, humidity and neighboring crops.

Neighborhood
It will not be possible to plant a plant that prefers alkaline soil next to a thuja.
If you try to influence the acidity of the soil, it can harm the thuja.
The exception is growing neighboring crops in flowerpots or other containers.
Violets, boxwood and lavender, rock rose, carnations, bells and geraniums are not planted in the same soil next to thuja.
Of the fruit crops, cucumbers and pumpkins, cabbage and strawberries, and also beans are not chosen as neighbors.
Moreover, the thuja itself can ruin plans for the harvest.
The tree releases substances that can reduce the yield of fruit crops.
Therefore, experienced gardeners maintain a distance when planting – approximately 5-6 meters.
