The bladder senna, which can stretch up to 160 cm in two years, will form the back row. Its unpretentiousness is surprising: frost of -30°C and a month without rain are not a hindrance.
In front of it you can leave a dogwood with scarlet branches to show off, enlivening the winter landscape. By the third year it reaches 130 cm, requiring neither shade nor special care.
The middle tier will be occupied by spirea and purple willow. The first is buried in pink inflorescences from June to September, filling the garden with aroma. The second, trimmed to a ruler, grows 50 cm of young shoots per season.
At the foot of this composition, spread cotoneaster - a living carpet that suppresses weeds. Its dense branches will create an impassable barrier 70 cm high in three years.
The key to success is not the plants, but the rules for planting them. Pits 45 cm deep and 70 cm wide will be a salvation. At the bottom - 10 cm of crushed stone against stagnant water, on top - a mixture of compost, sand and soil in proportions 2:1:4.
Place the seedlings in a checkerboard pattern: one meter between giants, 70 cm between low-growing ones.
Deepening the root collar by 4 cm stimulates the growth of additional roots.
During the first weeks, watering is strictly dosed - 5 liters per bush every 72 hours, later switching to a weekly regime.
The result will exceed expectations. A three-layer fence will not only hide the area from prying eyes, but will also save hundreds of rubles on replacing the fence.
Maintenance is limited to two haircuts per season and rare watering. Neighbors, inspired by the flowering wall, will follow you in switching to a “live” fence format.
The main thing is patience and precise adherence to technology: then even on poor soil you can create a masterpiece of landscape design.
