You can easily build such an original element of landscape design as an alpine slide with your own hands.

Advice on this topic was shared by the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh.

Step by step instructions

An alpine slide in the form of a mountain slope or rock can become the highlight of your garden. To create it, you will need stones of the same type, river sand, gravel, crushed stone, turf, peat, humus, limestone, soil and, of course, cultivated plants for planting.

Start with the development of the project. Draw a diagram of the placement of the rock garden on your site.

Use pegs and cord to mark the boundaries of the future rock garden.

Remove unnecessary objects from the designated area and remove the top layer of soil to a depth of 30-40 cm, removing grass and weeds.

Place 10cm of gravel or crushed rock to provide drainage, then add 5cm of river sand, water and compact thoroughly.

To prepare the soil mixture, mix turf soil, sand, perlite, pine bark, wood chips, peat and humus in equal proportions. When everything is ready, distribute the soil over the entire area of the future alpine slide.

The laying of stones begins with the largest boulder, which will become the center of the rock garden. Lay the stones from the foot upwards and fill the sinuses with soil, watering them with water.

It is customary to finish the arrangement of stones with a conical boulder at the top of the hill.

To settle the soil, you need to water the entire structure and leave it for 2-3 weeks.

After this, you can add a little soil mixture into the cracks and plant prepared plants in the spaces between the stones.
