Hogweed, which is popularly called “Stalin’s revenge”, is a poisonous plant native to the distant Caucasus.
Every spring it stubbornly fights its way towards the sun, and every summer it spreads thousands of seeds, creating a new generation of poisoned offspring.
This is probably why hogweed is considered an invincible weed. But the growth of even such a, dare we say it, terrifying creature can be controlled.
Chemicals
Perhaps the most obvious way to tame hogweed is to use chemicals. There are quite a few of them now, and they are really capable of producing effective results.
There is only one exception: treatment using such agents cannot be carried out near reservoirs.
Mechanical methods
To eradicate hogweed this way, it must be cut below the root collar by 2 cm. As a result of this “procedure,” the plant begins to rot.
The main thing is to avoid getting hogweed juice on your skin. If you suspect you have a burn, wash the damaged area of skin as quickly as possible and protect it from sunlight.
And finally: if you want to forget about hogweed as a bad dream, try not to allow this plant to bloom under any circumstances.
The hogweed lives for about 7 years and can produce flower stalks in any year of its life. As a result, up to 100 thousand seeds are born, which retain their viability for at least 10 years.
