Forget Marigolds: A New Plant to Fight Pests in Your Garden

29.12.2024 20:00

Many gardeners use marigolds to drive pests out of their plots.

However, there is a plant that is much more effective in this regard.

We are talking about pyrethrum, which is often called “Dalmatian chamomile” or “pink pyrethrum”.

It is on the basis of this plant that insecticides, flea shampoos for animals, etc. are made.

As reported by the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , Dalmatian chamomile contains significantly more pyrethrum than marigolds or other pyrethrum daisies.

This means that by “prescribing” pyrethrum in your garden, you guarantee a noticeable reduction in the number of pests.

Where to plant

You can do it in a greenhouse – you will get rid of whiteflies.

If you set fire to the dry parts of Dalmatian chamomile, the smoke will drive away all kinds of flies, mosquitoes and other small vermin that cannot stand this “aroma”.

You can sow them next to bulbous plants - rodents will avoid them.

You can water the holes when planting potatoes with pyrethrum infusion to combat wireworms.

Speaking of mixtures, this plant is used to make excellent pest control products.

How to make a mixture

What do you need? Collect pyrethrum flowers in a jar (0.5 l), pour boiling water over them and leave for several hours.

Then add a little bit of laundry soap solution.

Spray the plants affected by aphids with the resulting solution. After about ten minutes, the harmful creature will disappear.

You can also dry pyrethrum. Then grind it and sprinkle it on your garden. At least 50% of pests will be gone.
