Peonies are a welcome guest in any area. Majestic and luxurious, they have been considered a symbol of nobility, love, wealth and courage since ancient times.

If you decide to propagate this beauty, you can do it with seeds or vegetatively, suggests the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh.

Peony cuttings

The right time for cuttings is mid-July.

To do this, you will need to select a semi-woody shoot with formed buds. The cuttings are cut diagonally under the bud, and the leaf blades are shortened by two-thirds.

Be sure to treat the cut area using a growth product for this purpose - this way the roots will form much faster.

Propagation of peonies by layering

The procedure is carried out at the end of May - during this period, you need to bend the outer shoot to the ground and place it in dug holes, the depth of which is 10 cm.

To ensure that roots form in this place as quickly as possible, try to bend the shoot at a right angle. It also needs to be watered properly and covered with high-quality humus. In the future, do not forget to water the layers so that the soil does not have time to dry out.

Sooner or later the cuttings will sprout - take care of them, water them and loosen the soil, and no later than August 20-25, dig them up to plant them in the main place.

Propagation of peonies by stem cuttings

This method is also used at the end of May, when non-flowering shoots are cut off for cuttings at the root collar.

The length of the cutting should be 10 cm, and it should be planted at a depth of 5 cm, placing it in the ground with the part that was cut from the root collar.
