How to protect trees from sunburn and frost cracks: this is what they do in villages

Most summer residents use whitewashing to protect their garden plantings from sun and frost damage, but there are other methods.

A much more reliable and less labor-intensive option is to cover the trunks with spunbond.

This material is capable of “preventing” both burns and severe frosts.

How to cover trees with spunbond

Before you begin covering, it is worth treating the lower part of the trees with 3% copper sulfate.

By the way, the covering material does not have to be new – the main thing is that its density is about 60 grams per square meter.

The shelter should be one or two layers, but not dense. Otherwise, if the trees are wrapped tightly in spunbond, after rain the wet material may freeze to the bark and damage it.

It is very practical to use spunbond to create a kind of “diapers” measuring one meter by one meter, wrapping it around tree trunks in the same way that mothers swaddle babies, securing them with twine in several places.

By the way, it is allowed to leave this material for the summer, but in this case it should be periodically treated with dichlorvos to protect against ants.

In the past, roofing felt was used in collective farm orchards to protect apple trees from burns and attacks by hares.
